i-movie trailers of our Author Study on Lynley Dodd!!

As part of our learning around ICT we decided to make i-movie trailers of our favourite Lynley Dodd books.

We were really excited to make these movies!!

This is how we did it:

1) We learnt how to take good photos of the books illustrations (it was hard to get good photos, we had to try again and again...)

2) We chose a movie trailer theme that we thought matched our book

3) We uploaded the photos

4) We edited the trailer and added text to match (that was the really hard part)

Well done to everyone for persisting with these i-movie trailers. These are the ones that are finished so far.

Show and Tell . . .

This Friday we had three students with things to show. Ava and her stones/crystals, Bridie and her Little Pet Shop toy and Rico with his McDonalds Motorbike.

The real topic of the discussion though was around geography. We discussed New Plymouth as many students have ties to that area, Australia as some students have been there or have family there, and Japan as I have visitors from there at the moment. We looked at the class maps to find these places.

What an interesting discussion we ended up having!!!

Time Telling

In maths we are learning to tell the time to the hour and half-hour.

Today it was such great weather Miss Mehring took us outside and we made 'human clocks' to tell the time.

Elmo's Weekend with Jahdae

I took Elmo to the pools in Dannevirke. It was cool. I went with my Whanau. My Nan and Aunty.

I liked jumping in the pool.

Then we went to the park. It was a sunny day and it was a bit hot. I went down the slide, it was hot too!! I went on the monkey bars too. I'm strong.

Then we had fish and chips for lunch. I had a hotdog, burger and fish. And a milkshake and lollies.

Later we went to my friends house. Then we went home.

Show and Tell. . .

On Fridays we have 'Show & Tell' to strengthen the link between home and school and give the students an opportunity to develop their oral language and listening skills.

This week we had lot's of interesting things! Tennessy and her soft toy, Ava and her butterflies (thanks for the photos Mum), Shannon and her unicorn and Bridie and her scrapbook. Ka Pai!!

Our Author Study: "Lynley Dodd"

We have started the year reading lots of books by the author, Lynley Dodd.

She is most famous for the character 'Hairy Maclary' and the series of books about him. Have you heard of him??

It's great to read such amazing books in school, and even better when they are written by a NZ author.

Below are some of her books . . .

Try and find a Lynley Dodd book next time you go to the Library. You will love it!!!

Welcome to the Room 3 Blog for 2014!!

Kia Ora.

If you are reading this it means that you have found your way to the Room 3 Blog. Well Done!!! You have taken the first important step in engaging with your tamariki's digital school learning.

This site will be regularly updated by BOTH myself (Mr. Evans) and (more importantly) the students throughout the year. It will have a wide range of content from our story writing, reading and maths work; to things like videos we make and photos of our learning, special events and also daily school life.

It is a place for our students to gain further "21st Century Learning"to prepare them for the digital online world we now find ourselves in.

I welcome you to add feedback, comments and posts of what you see and read on the blog. It's a great way to stay in touch with the kids and with me!

Thanks, and I'll be seeing you in cyberspace!!

Mr. Evans
